In the winter of 2005, somewhere in the Fagaras mountains in Romania, an ice hotel was born for the first time.
Located at over 2000 meters altitude, this was the first project of its kind in Eastern Europe, in order to promote the Romanian tourism potential. And believe me … it was a great success.
The project continued every year since then, always coming up with something new: an Ice Bar and Ice Restaurant, a unique ice statue exhibit, a Winter Park for winter sports lovers, the ice church – whose idea was born in the season 2006 – 2007, when the theme of the hotel was “Religious Tourism”. Built according to the model and architecture of an old church in Sibiu county – Transylvania, numerous baptisms and religious weddings were officiated here.
The themed rooms and specific names of the Ice Hotel give the guests a unique experience. Iglooos with double ice beds, covered with soft mattresses, linens, blankets and fluffy animal fur will be at your disposal for an “otherwise” night. Of course, before bedtime, tourists receive warm sleeping bags, since the average temperature in the hotel is between -2 and +2 degrees C.
For those who do not know, the ice in Lake Bâlea is not always thick enough to be cut into huge bricks, so the workers and student volunteers use the beaten snow mixed with water. And if you are lucky enough to snow, then you may even consider yourself lucky tourists, who are part of a fairy tale.
Made entirely of snow and ice blocks from the nearby glacier lake, with a 14-year tradition, between the ridges of the Fagaras mountains and at over 2,000 meters altitude, in a story landscape where the sculptors, the ice artists, work for about a month for this unique construction in Europe, where, to reach the destination, you have to go by cable car over the famous Transfagarasan roads … which can be more interesting, especially for those who really love the snow season.
At least once in your life you must enjoy such an experience.
We are waiting for you in Transylvania, the land of Dracula…
