Vlad Tepes Dracul - the first vampire

Who was Vlad Tepes / Count Dracula?

Charismatic hero or Prince of Darkness, historical character or living legend, the King of Walachia Vlad Tepes fascinates even today with his cruelty, but also through his fortitude in service of justice. He was born in November 1431 in the fortress of Sighisoara, the second son of the famous ruler Vlad al II-lea Dracul, governor of Transylvania in that time, who was part of the Order of the Dragon, order compared to the one of the Knights of Malta or of the Teutonic Knights.

The Prince Vlad ruled Walachia three times: 1448, 1456 – 1462 and 1476. All his rules were marked by fierce fights with the betraying noblemen and with the Ottoman Empire. What can be more horrible than 20,000 impaled skulls, exposed to provoke terror. This horror scene remained in history as the “forest of Tepes“. His fame, known in history as Vlad Tepes-Dracula, created from combination of facts with imagination, of history with the legend, led to binding a brave warrior with an amazing audacity with an aceof cruelty. The transformation of Vlad Tepes in bloodthirsty Count Dracula is own to the fact that according to that time’s habit the winner of a fight slaked his thirst by drinking the blood of the defeated.

The fear and admiration are the two feelings inspired to his contemporaries: Bram Stoker ( Dracula 1897 ), as well as the entire today’sfilmography cannot capture truly the terrifying world of the great King Dracula. The entire Transylvania remembers to this day those legendary times: Sighisoara, Castelul Bran, Sibiu, Poenari, Targoviste, Hunedoara, Alba Iulia.
